Ladies Man!

Ever since Luke started smiling he has been trying to charm all the ladies! Nonni gave Luke his super cool and super warm hat for Christmas that just happens to match his Aunt Jenny's! Now he is ready to go visit her in Vermont! We are going to miss Aunt Jenny SO much!

His smiles easily charm his Mimi!

Here Luke tries to put the moves on little Elise Barnes. Luke definitely takes after his daddy!

Nonni and Luke loving on each other after Christmas dinner! Two great smiles!

Luke already has a girlfriend! This boy has his heart set on little Miss Harper Hoge! We are looking forward to many fun memories with these two!

Our First Christmas

We had the best Christmas gift of all this year! Luke was 6 weeks old Christmas day and the star of the day! We had a great Christmas with both family and friends. Just a few days before Christmas Luke graced us with his first true social smiles! Let me tell you those smiles just melt my heart...after I got the first one I found myself doing crazy stunts just to get another one! If anyone would have seen me they would have thought I lost my mind, but fortunately for me Luke thought I was hilarious!

It was wonderful to spend our holiday with both our extended family as well as our little family of three! Everyone made our first Christmas so special. As we fell asleep on Christmas Eve Drew and I dreamed about what future Christmas Eve's will entail...late night toy assemblies and the anticipation of seeing Luke's face the next morning when he gets his first peak at his gifts under the tree!

Aunt Jenny had a special surprise for us on Christmas...all of our gifts under the tree were wrapped in LUKE! She had a special "secret" photo shoot with Luke and then had wrapping paper made with the photos! It was so fun and of course I opened every gift with a letter opener so that we could save all the wrapping paper!

Luke slept through much of Christmas Eve!

Luke's stocking was bigger than he was this year!

Luke wasn't the only spoiled one this year...the three dogs had several bones in the Christmas tree! Including a massive two foot long one!

We had a wonderful holiday and hope that you and your family did as well! Enjoy the rest of 2009!

One Month!

Luke is one month old today! I feel silly saying it, but I can't believe my baby is already one month old! I have a feeling I will be saying things like this for the rest of my life now! This month has gone by so quickly! It has been wonderful in every sense of the word: discovering parenthood, getting to know Luke, the love of our family, the support of our friends, the list could go on and on.

Luke has grown so much over the last month, several pounds, several inches...but I think the ones who have grown the most are Drew and me! Our lives have forever changed! We have gone from diaper changes taking 5-10 minutes to less than 30 seconds, tentatively dressing Luke (pulling shirts over his head and working his stubborn arms into his sleeves) to dressing him quickly and almost effortlessly, being anally clean to walking around with spit up on our shirts and in our (really just my) hair, sleeping in until 11am and at least 9 hours a night to surviving on minimal amounts of sleep, going out to dinner at 9pm to joining the family crowd at 5pm! We have most importantly discovered a love like none other!

Luke is becoming much more alert and has started to make more eye contact and have more "smiling" moments. It seems that everyday he grows just a little bit stronger. He sleeps one stretch of close to five hours a night, feeds and then sleeps about another 3 hours, so I am slowly starting to catch up on sleep. I can't wait to see how much he will change over the next month!

Visit from Uncle Aaron!

This weekend my brother Aaron flew in from the Boston area to meet Luke! It was so wonderful to have him here and have some great family time with the Hovels! We already miss him! We hope that this Spring we can make the trip to MA to see the rest of Aaron's family and Luke can meet his Aunt Nellie and cousins Spencer and Graham.

We went to visit Great Grandma Hovel, she always loves her time with Luke!

Over the past few days Luke has become quite the snuggler! He is loving his tummy time!

It is hard to believe that three weeks have already passed since Luke was born. The time has flown by, which is hard to believe considering I am awake more hours of the day than ever before! :) It seems like the days just evaporate before my eyes! I love the time I have with Luke more with each passing day!
Thursday we went for a three week check up with the pediatrician and Luke is doing great! He weighed in at 8lbs 8oz and was 22 inches long! He is a growing boy! He is definitely starting to be a lot more alert during the daytime, if only I knew what he was thinking about behind those big blue eyes!
Two weeks ago we had Luke's newborn pictures taken and we are really excited with our pictures. Our gallery is up for the next week if you would like to see our pictures. They are available at: http://www.amyjustin.com/ Click on proofing, and then enter the password: keller, to see our little man!

Luke's First Thanksgiving

We had a very special Thanksgiving this year! Luke definitely was the star of the day! We had Thanksgiving at our house and both Grandmothers (Mimi and Nonni) were gracious enough to bring Thanksgiving to us! Luke was blessed with 3 Great Grandparents, 4 Grandparents, 1 Great Uncle, 1 Aunt, 2 parents and 3 Golden Retrievers at his first holiday! This is one lucky boy! The picture above is 4 generations of Keller men!
This year more than ever before we are grateful for the love and support of our family and friends. This Thanksgiving was both a time of joy and remembrance and we felt so fortunate to be surrounded by so much love.
Luke's Aunt Jenny is staying with us over the holidays this year and it is so fun to have her here with us to bond with Luke. It is also great to have her help!
We are also looking forward to Uncle Aaron's visit from Massachusetts this coming weekend!
I am still waiting on a few pictures from Thanksgiving, but once I have them I will include photos of Luke with all his Grandparents and Great Grandparents! We hope you had as wonderful of a Thanksgiving as we did!

Future Swimmer?

Today we gave Luke his first bath...finally on Friday his umbilical cord fell off! I was a little nervous after all the warnings we received in childbirth class that babies are slippery when wet! Luke LOVED his bath though as you can see from the pictures. We had no tears and no crying, which was actually a miracle because it had been a rough morning!

Looks like we have a future lake rat on our hands!

Happy Home

Rigley's new best pal!

Kung Foo grip!

Time by the fire with Daddy!

We finally get to take our son home!

First meeting Bentley!

We are home and loving every minute with Luke! Sunday morning we got the "all clear" from the pediatrician and OB and even though the hospital said we could stay until 11:59pm, Drew and I hightailed our way out with Luke before noon! We were so excited to get him home! We had an amazing experience though at Shawnee Mission. All of our nurses were wonderful and I couldn't have asked for more.

Even though Luke is only 4 days old, I can't imagine our lives without him. I can honestly say that I have never been happier in my entire life. Everything with Luke just feels so natural and right. We waited a long time for a child to join our lives and I feel so incredibly fortunate to have such an amazing husband and son, a loving and supportive family, and such a great group of friends. We have been showered with love, dinners, support etc. Luke has so many new friends that can't wait to meet him!

Luke is such a good natured baby. He makes us smile and laugh constantly. He has so many facial expressions that warm our hearts. He sleeps incredibly well, I honestly think he would sleep through the night if I didn't have to wake him for feedings. He eats like a champion and overall is just a happy little fellow!

We had our first visit to the pediatrician today and Luke got a great report. He is such a tiny kiddo weighing in right now at 6lbs. 15oz, but we are hopeful that at our weight check on Friday he will have started to gain weight. I am feeling pretty confident by Friday he will be well on his way, I feel like all this guy has done today is EAT! In the mean time we are getting a little creative with clothing! We were expecting this little guy to be a BIG baby...so we had very few newborn clothes, but lots of 0-3 month clothes. Luke is swimming even in his newborn clothes! He likes the baggy pants look!

This week has been awesome with the three of us all being home together. I wish Drew didn't have to go back to work next week.

First Family Photos

A Mind of His Own!

So Baby L decided that induction/eviction was NOT for him! Around 3am on Friday morning I went in to labor and things moved very quickly! We showed up at the hospital at our scheduled time of 6am and Baby L was ready to join us around 11:30. I can honestly say that the entire experience was awesome...not at all what I expected...and I mean that in the best possible way. It was great. I would do it all again tomorrow!

Lucas Andrew Keller was born at 2:40pm on November 13th. He weighed in at 7lbs, 6oz and is 20 inches long. He has a FULL, and I mean a FULL head of hair...more hair than his daddy! He is absolutely precious and we are loving every moment with him. We can't stop staring at him! He had a great night last night and it eating like a champ! It looks like we will go home tomorrow afternoon and we are super excited to introduce Luke to his new best pals, Rigley and Bentley!

We have been so touched by how thoughtful and concerned all of our family and friends have been these last few weeks and days. Everyone has made us feel so special and Luke is so lucky to be surrounded by so much love!

We will take some more pictures today, but for now here are a few to get started! Lucky Luke made it in time for the first KU basketball game of the year and he cheered his #1 Jayhawks to their first victory of the season!

Eviction Notice

At 6am tomorrow morning, Baby L is getting the boot. He has been notified for weeks that the eviction is imminent. He was first given notice that November 7th was his deadline, but out of the kindness of our hearts we extended his time until November 13th. There will be no more extensions.

In all seriousness, we are super excited that tomorrow is finally the day! The non stress test today was uneventful, everything is still great with Baby L. Today, I am enjoying quiet time with Rigley and Bentley, repacking my bag which has been packed for over 3 weeks now, enjoying some Starbucks and having a nice dinner with Drew...since I won't be allowed to eat until Baby L joins us. We are hoping he doesn't make us wait too long tomorrow, but we will just be happy if he is healthy and safely delivered.

Surprisingly, I don't feel one bit of nervousness concerning tomorrow, I am just so ready to do this! If I could, I would drive to the hospital right now and get this show on the road! We will update the blog from the hospital this weekend and can't wait to introduce you to our baby!

40 weeks, 4 days...Everything short of Castor Oil

Seriously...we have tried everything short of Castor Oil, which I have vowed to not try...BUT, if anyone out there has had success with this I'm willing to reconsider. When I got my second "Last" pedicure before the baby (that's right, I did that a couple of weeks ago in preparation, but had to again on Sunday) the nail lady said she swears by it...but I am just not too sure about this one.

Needless to say, we are still waiting. At least we know that this year, Friday the 13th will be a very lucky day because we will FINALLY meet our son!

40 weeks, 2 Days...282 Days and Counting

I have been asked to keep updating...I know everyone is anxiously awaiting some sort of "news"...sorry to disappoint...we are still waiting! We had a wonderful weekend...very quiet, but a nice closeout to the pre-baby weekends.

I went for the non stress test this morning and it went perfectly. Baby L is doing great and Dr. Loften has no concerns right now. I will go again on Thursday.

We have LOTS of friends that were expecting right around our due date...about 8 couples...and all but one of the couples has had their babies. So, I think Baby L must be an attention seeker. He wants to wait until all the other bambinos have been born so that he can get the spotlight all to himself!

While I have loved having time off from work...I am going on about three and half weeks and I am going crazy...SO, here are some pictures I took this morning of our current babies..Rigley and Bentley who are taking extra special care of me at home!
