Luke's First Thanksgiving

We had a very special Thanksgiving this year! Luke definitely was the star of the day! We had Thanksgiving at our house and both Grandmothers (Mimi and Nonni) were gracious enough to bring Thanksgiving to us! Luke was blessed with 3 Great Grandparents, 4 Grandparents, 1 Great Uncle, 1 Aunt, 2 parents and 3 Golden Retrievers at his first holiday! This is one lucky boy! The picture above is 4 generations of Keller men!
This year more than ever before we are grateful for the love and support of our family and friends. This Thanksgiving was both a time of joy and remembrance and we felt so fortunate to be surrounded by so much love.
Luke's Aunt Jenny is staying with us over the holidays this year and it is so fun to have her here with us to bond with Luke. It is also great to have her help!
We are also looking forward to Uncle Aaron's visit from Massachusetts this coming weekend!
I am still waiting on a few pictures from Thanksgiving, but once I have them I will include photos of Luke with all his Grandparents and Great Grandparents! We hope you had as wonderful of a Thanksgiving as we did!

Future Swimmer?

Today we gave Luke his first bath...finally on Friday his umbilical cord fell off! I was a little nervous after all the warnings we received in childbirth class that babies are slippery when wet! Luke LOVED his bath though as you can see from the pictures. We had no tears and no crying, which was actually a miracle because it had been a rough morning!

Looks like we have a future lake rat on our hands!

Happy Home

Rigley's new best pal!

Kung Foo grip!

Time by the fire with Daddy!

We finally get to take our son home!

First meeting Bentley!

We are home and loving every minute with Luke! Sunday morning we got the "all clear" from the pediatrician and OB and even though the hospital said we could stay until 11:59pm, Drew and I hightailed our way out with Luke before noon! We were so excited to get him home! We had an amazing experience though at Shawnee Mission. All of our nurses were wonderful and I couldn't have asked for more.

Even though Luke is only 4 days old, I can't imagine our lives without him. I can honestly say that I have never been happier in my entire life. Everything with Luke just feels so natural and right. We waited a long time for a child to join our lives and I feel so incredibly fortunate to have such an amazing husband and son, a loving and supportive family, and such a great group of friends. We have been showered with love, dinners, support etc. Luke has so many new friends that can't wait to meet him!

Luke is such a good natured baby. He makes us smile and laugh constantly. He has so many facial expressions that warm our hearts. He sleeps incredibly well, I honestly think he would sleep through the night if I didn't have to wake him for feedings. He eats like a champion and overall is just a happy little fellow!

We had our first visit to the pediatrician today and Luke got a great report. He is such a tiny kiddo weighing in right now at 6lbs. 15oz, but we are hopeful that at our weight check on Friday he will have started to gain weight. I am feeling pretty confident by Friday he will be well on his way, I feel like all this guy has done today is EAT! In the mean time we are getting a little creative with clothing! We were expecting this little guy to be a BIG we had very few newborn clothes, but lots of 0-3 month clothes. Luke is swimming even in his newborn clothes! He likes the baggy pants look!

This week has been awesome with the three of us all being home together. I wish Drew didn't have to go back to work next week.

First Family Photos

A Mind of His Own!

So Baby L decided that induction/eviction was NOT for him! Around 3am on Friday morning I went in to labor and things moved very quickly! We showed up at the hospital at our scheduled time of 6am and Baby L was ready to join us around 11:30. I can honestly say that the entire experience was awesome...not at all what I expected...and I mean that in the best possible way. It was great. I would do it all again tomorrow!

Lucas Andrew Keller was born at 2:40pm on November 13th. He weighed in at 7lbs, 6oz and is 20 inches long. He has a FULL, and I mean a FULL head of hair...more hair than his daddy! He is absolutely precious and we are loving every moment with him. We can't stop staring at him! He had a great night last night and it eating like a champ! It looks like we will go home tomorrow afternoon and we are super excited to introduce Luke to his new best pals, Rigley and Bentley!

We have been so touched by how thoughtful and concerned all of our family and friends have been these last few weeks and days. Everyone has made us feel so special and Luke is so lucky to be surrounded by so much love!

We will take some more pictures today, but for now here are a few to get started! Lucky Luke made it in time for the first KU basketball game of the year and he cheered his #1 Jayhawks to their first victory of the season!

Eviction Notice

At 6am tomorrow morning, Baby L is getting the boot. He has been notified for weeks that the eviction is imminent. He was first given notice that November 7th was his deadline, but out of the kindness of our hearts we extended his time until November 13th. There will be no more extensions.

In all seriousness, we are super excited that tomorrow is finally the day! The non stress test today was uneventful, everything is still great with Baby L. Today, I am enjoying quiet time with Rigley and Bentley, repacking my bag which has been packed for over 3 weeks now, enjoying some Starbucks and having a nice dinner with Drew...since I won't be allowed to eat until Baby L joins us. We are hoping he doesn't make us wait too long tomorrow, but we will just be happy if he is healthy and safely delivered.

Surprisingly, I don't feel one bit of nervousness concerning tomorrow, I am just so ready to do this! If I could, I would drive to the hospital right now and get this show on the road! We will update the blog from the hospital this weekend and can't wait to introduce you to our baby!

40 weeks, 4 days...Everything short of Castor Oil

Seriously...we have tried everything short of Castor Oil, which I have vowed to not try...BUT, if anyone out there has had success with this I'm willing to reconsider. When I got my second "Last" pedicure before the baby (that's right, I did that a couple of weeks ago in preparation, but had to again on Sunday) the nail lady said she swears by it...but I am just not too sure about this one.

Needless to say, we are still waiting. At least we know that this year, Friday the 13th will be a very lucky day because we will FINALLY meet our son!

40 weeks, 2 Days...282 Days and Counting

I have been asked to keep updating...I know everyone is anxiously awaiting some sort of "news"...sorry to disappoint...we are still waiting! We had a wonderful weekend...very quiet, but a nice closeout to the pre-baby weekends.

I went for the non stress test this morning and it went perfectly. Baby L is doing great and Dr. Loften has no concerns right now. I will go again on Thursday.

We have LOTS of friends that were expecting right around our due date...about 8 couples...and all but one of the couples has had their babies. So, I think Baby L must be an attention seeker. He wants to wait until all the other bambinos have been born so that he can get the spotlight all to himself!

While I have loved having time off from work...I am going on about three and half weeks and I am going crazy...SO, here are some pictures I took this morning of our current babies..Rigley and Bentley who are taking extra special care of me at home!

Full Term we are, 40 weeks. I never thought we would get to this point, or rather, I hoped we wouldn't! But we are here. We had our full term appointment today. Everything with Baby L is still fine, other than the fact that he is all snuggly in my uterus instead of in our arms!

I am still very happy we didn't induce today, but I can't help but feel a little bit sad that we have yet to meet our son.

Next week I have two non-stress tests scheduled for Monday and Thursday to make sure that everything with Baby L is alright since we will be going past our due date. If we still have no action by next Friday, then we will induce. We are scheduled at the hospital for Friday the 13th...which used to bother me, but now, does not even phase me! We are still holding out hope that in the next seven days Baby L will join us at his leisure.

The one positive is that I will get an extra week of maternity leave possibly!

In the mean time, Drew and I are enjoying quiet time around the house, dinners out, movies, and lots of laughs! I know we will always value this special time together! We have had a great run just the two of us, but now we are ready for our life as a family of three!

Change of Heart

Despite the fact that we are so excited and anxious to meet our son, we have decided not to move forward with the induction on Friday. Ever since the appointment on Friday something has just not felt "right" to me. Pregnancy for the last 39+ weeks, at least for me, has been a lot about surrendering control of the uncontrollable (a life lesson I greatly needed), and the conclusion of this pregnancy should be no different. I just don't feel that I should force when Baby L enters the world, unless it is medically necessary for his safety or for mine. So we will wait, putting no pressure on Baby L. Of course, if we reach 41 weeks things start to change and, again, we will have to consider inducing labor, but at just under 40 weeks I feel it is better to wait. This little guy will come when he is strong enough and ready. In the scope of a lifetime, what's a few more days! This morning I woke up finally feeling at peace with Baby L's upcoming birth, and I know this is the right choice.

One of both Drew and my biggest pet peeves is it will be quite humorous if our son decides to break the family mold and show up late to the party!
