Luke's Baptism

The final event of our busy weekend was our little Luke's baptism. It was very special because Luke was not only baptized in the church where Drew and I were married but he also was baptized by my Dad, his Papa. Luke did remarkably well, he didn't cry at all and seemed like his usual joyful self! He was very well behaved in church and even made it through the brunch and family time all afternoon while missing his nap...NO tears! Just lots of coos and fun times!

Drew and I originally thought we would like to have Luke baptized in the Spring when the weather would be better, it would be easier for family to travel etc. When we realized my mom's 60th birthday fell on a Sunday and the first day of Spring we couldn't think of a better day! Well, old man Winter had his last hurrah on Saturday and we had 8 inches of snow! Luckily, everyone could still be with us. Luke had 2 Great Grandparents, 4 Grandparents, 2 Great Aunts, 1 Great Uncle, 1 Aunt, 2 parents, 2 great friends and a partridge in a pear tree (just kidding) present to celebrate his special day!

My mom sewed Luke's baptismal outfit and he was also given a beautiful baptismal poncho following the ceremony that you see in the picture above.

Here is the Hovel side of the family, including my almost 89 year old Grandmother.

This is the Hinrichs side of our family, my mom's brother and sister.

These are Luke's sponsors, his Aunt Jenny and my best friend, Ashlee who lives in Alabama. She and her wonderful husband Mike traveled all the way to Kansas City to share this special day with us. It was so wonderful to have them here, and they were also VERY helpful with my mom's surprise party the night before. We were so lucky to have Aunt Jenny join us from Vermont for the second weekend this month! Luke is lucky to have such loving people take such a special role in his life.

Two very happy smiles! Luke with his Great Grandma Hovel who turns 89 on April 1st!

Luke and his daddy...Luke loves to be in any position where he can check out the world!

Our happy little guy on his very special day!

Luke enjoying some time with Mimi, who hosted a wonderful brunch for family and friends after Luke's baptism.
Overall, we had a such a special and celebratory weekend! Luke is so blessed to have so many people who love to spoil him!

This weekend my beautiful mother turned 60 years young! To celebrate the occasion we threw her a surprise party! I wasn't sure if we could pull it off, but as these pictures indicate, it was a success! She had no idea that her brother and sister were coming to town from St. Louis. She thought she was coming over to our house for a birthday dinner Saturday night with a few friends. You can see the surprise and joy on her face when her brother and sister opened the front door! She thought that was her surprise....until....

She turned the corner and saw her close friends and family! It was a wonderful night and we had so much fun showering her with love!

I think these three are related...what do you think? This was the first time that my Uncle Dave and Aunt Lucy and Aunt Nancy had had the opportunity to meet little Luke as well!

Luke, being the social party animal that he is, took in all the excitement!

Thanks Uncle Dave, Aunt Lucy and Aunt Nancy for making the special trip to Kansas City to help make my mom's 60th birthday such a success!

What a Weekend!

This past weekend was a whirlwind! Several posts will follow to fully update. We started the weekend Thursday evening with our first overnight away from Luke! We had gone over to some friends to watch the KU game and Drew's parents offered to watch Luke overnight so we could have a fun night away. I wasn't too sure at first, but I am so glad that we took them up on the opportunity! We had a wonderful night with friends and enjoyed sleeping in a little on Friday morning!

Saturday, the first day of Spring, brought nothing close to Spring weather...we had 8 inches of snow throughout the day. I was pretty nervous about the bad change in weather because we were hosting a surprise 60th birthday party for my mom that night and we had friends and family coming in from out of town. Fortunately everyone made it!

Unfortunately, Saturday marked a very sad time as well, as our beloved Kansas Jayhawks had their most devastating loss in a long time. Our hopes of another National Championship quickly diminished on Saturday night. Drew and I had planned to make the trip to Indianapolis for the Final Four if KU made it, so we were pretty disappointed. That being said, I am happy to not have to leave Luke for 4 days, priorities sure do change!

As if that wasn't a full weekend already, we had Luke's baptism on Sunday morning, my mom's actual birthday. It was a beautiful day and we were surrounded with lots of family and friends. I will post pictures of all these events shortly!

The Fastest 4 Months of Our Lives!

Yesterday our little charmer was 4 months old! It is so hard to believe that 4 months have already passed us by! I feel like one night this week Luke went to bed a little baby and woke up the next morning with TONS of new skills and such a fun little person!

He is such a happy little guy and finds almost everything in life laughable and definitely worthy of smiling about! It is impossible to be in a bad mood around Luke! Not only is he just so happy, but he is learning so much about his world! He watches EVERYTHING we do and is very inquisitive! His eyes follow us and the dogs wherever we go. He is reaching out and grabbing everything in sight...loves to touch and feel different things. He has finally discovered that he has feet too! He has grown so much stronger in the last week alone! It is so unbelievable to watch and witness how quickly he changes!

We had our 4 month appointment on Friday and everything is going great with Luke. He was 14lbs 7oz. and 25 inches long. He has almost doubled his birth weight and grown 5 inches! I think his cheeks might weigh at least 7 of his 14 and half pounds!
Luke is talking up a storm...he tells us all kinds of fun stories and watches us intently when we speak and sing to him! He also demands quite a bit of attention...if we stop talking to him or paying attention to him he certainly lets us know all about it!

I love this picture of Luke staring at the duck on his exerscaucer...he was getting very excited (and surprised) that it spins when he hits it!

Luke also puts EVERYTHING in his mouth...his hands, our hands, toys, you name it...it goes in his mouth...I sense babyproofing the house is just around the corner!
Overall, these have been the most fun four months of our lives and I have a feeling the best is yet to come!

First Haircut

If you would have told me 4 months ago at this time that my soon-to-be-born child would have his first haircut by 4 months I would have said you were crazy! But, alas, here we are, long overdue for our first haircut! As you can see, Luke had some seriously shaggy hair...while it attracts a lot of attention, it also attracts a lot of spit up and something had to give!

So today, a friend cut Luke's hair! He looked like such a big boy sitting in his Bumbo seat with a little cape around his neck! He did awesome and it was so fun!

He had an audience watching him getting his hair cut and my mom was snapping pictures of him like the Papparazzi! I'm not sure anyone has had this much attention during a haircut since Britney Spears shaved her head!

Everyone keeps telling me that Luke is going to lose this hair...maybe he will, maybe he won't...it sure is A LOT of thick hair! The only one losing their hair these days is ME...while I was fully expecting the anticipated hair loss post pregnancy nothing could have prepared me for the amount of hair loss...I'm starting to fear I may go bald!

Here Luke is getting the finishing touches on his new "do."

And finally my precious pumpkin with his new big boy look! What a charmer! How can you say "no" to this face?!?

Last weekend Aunt Jenny came to visit! It was so fun to see her, I am sure she was shocked by how much Luke has grown over the last two months since we last saw her! She spoiled us! Luke wakes up pretty early and he definitely doesn't understand the concept of a weekend (like every other child in the world!). Drew and I used to be the couple that slept in until 11am on Saturday mornings...NOT ANYMORE! This weekend when Luke got up at 630, I fed him and then Aunt Jenny played with him until it was time for his nap at 9am so that Drew and I could sleep! It was blissful and much needed!

Luke is getting pretty big time now...playing in his exerscaucer as he gains more head and body control! Everyday he seems a bit stronger!

We are far from starting solid foods...yet Drew thinks it is fun to touch various foods to Luke's lips to see his reaction. Here, Luke is having tummy time on the breakfast table and Drew is letting him try some fresh grape juice...this adventure was received much better than Ranch dressing which is not Luke's favorite!
It is also a very special time...LUKE'S FIRST MARCH MADNESS!!! In honor of the special occasion, we have updated the banner at the top of this blog! Luke is wishing and hoping that his KANSAS JAYHAWKS take the trip to Indianapolis this year!
